چکیده

The electromagnetic polarizabilities of the nucleon are shown to be essentially composed of the nonresonant αp(E0+) = +3.2, αn(E0+) = +4.1, the t-channel α t p,n = −βt p,n = +7.6 and the resonant βp,n(P33(1232)) = +8.3 contributions (in units of 10 −4fm). The remaining deviations from the experimental data ∆αp = 1.2 ± 0.6, ∆βp = 1.2 ∓ 0.6, ∆αn = 0.8 ± 1.7 and ∆βn = 2.0 ∓ 1.8 are contributed by a larger number of resonant and nonresonant processes with cancellations between the contributions. This result confirms that dominant contributions to the electric and magnetic polarizabilities may be represented in terms of twophoton coupling to the σ meson having the predicted mass mσ = 666 MeV and two-photon width Γγγ = 2.6 keV. Microscopic Parameters in the Excited State of Toluene and Some of Its Haloderavatives

The Ultraviolet-visible (UV) spectra of toluene, ortho-bromo and para-bromo toluene in different solvents have been studied. The electric dipole moments and polarizabilities in the molecular excited electronic states were determined. It was found that the electric dipole moments for the excited states (µ*) and the ground states (µ) of these compounds are equal, and the change in dipole moment i...

Polarizabilities of the nucleon and spin dependent photo-absorption

The polarizabilities α (electric), β (magnetic) and γπ (backward spin) of the nucleon are investigated in terms of the degrees of freedom of the nucleon using recent results for the CGLN amplitudes and resonance couplings A1/2 and A3/2. The photon excitation strengths of the excited states are given in terms of partial integrated photoabsorption cross sections and resonant contributions of the ...

Response of nucleons to external probes in hedgehog models. I. Electromagnetic polarizabilities.

Electromagnetic polarizabilities of the nucleon are analyzed in a hedgehog model with quark and meson degrees of freedom. Semiclassical methods are used (linear response theory, quantization via cranking). It is found that in hedgehog models (Skyrmion, chiral quark models, Nambu–Jona-Lasinio model), the average electric polarizability of the nucleon, αN , is of the order Nc, and the splitting o...

Spin polarizabilities and polarizabilities of the nucleon studied by free and quasi-free Compton scattering at MAMI (Mainz)

In addition to the E2/M1 ratio of the N → ∆ transition, the electromagnetic polarizabilities and spin-polarizabilities are important structure constants of the nucleon which serve as sensitive tests of chiral perturbation theory and of models of the nucleon. Recently, these quantities have been investigated experimentally at MAMI (Mainz) by high-precision Compton scattering using hydrogen and d...

Polarizability of the Nucleon and Compton Scattering

One of the central challenges of hadron physics in the regime of strong (non-perturbative) QCD is to identify the relevant degrees of freedom of the nucleon and to quantitatively explain experimental data in terms of these degrees of freedom. Among the processes studied so far Compton scattering plays a prominent role because of the well understood properties of the electromagnetic interaction....
